Continuing Education and Why it's Important?

Many characteristics go into the making of a good dog trainer. Aspects such as such as experience, education and personality. One of the defining principles here at Canine Coaching is you can never learn too much. We strive to constantly learn new skills, techniques and methods because we believe the more we know the better equipped we are to help you with your dog training.

Many things are taught by experience and no two clients are the same. Through the experiences you have as a trainer you become better equipped to address the needs of each client. This being said experience isn't everything.

As with any industry, the face of dog training is always changing. New theories are developed, research impacts the science behind training, and people try new things. 2018 is shaping up to be quite the year for Canine Coaching.

Here's a preview of how we are growing to better serve you!

This past weekend we attended an Obedience Seminar hosted by Saul Garcia. Saul is a Balanced Trainer with an amazing wealth of experience and knowledge. His philosophy parallels ours here at Canine Coaching; dogs are meant to be dogs, verbal communication is key, consistency is crucial and that having a good bond with your dog is essential.  We learned a ton of interesting ideas at the seminar that we are excited to apply to our own training and pass along to our clients. We are planning on having Saul come do a two day workshop in May/June and would love to have you there!

In March, Samantha will be taking her Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) certification exam. What is this and what does it mean for Canine Coaching? "The CPDT-KA measures a broad range of knowledge and skills in ethology, learning theory, dog training technique, and instruction." (http://www.ccpdt.org/certification/dog-trainer-certification/) In taking this test it helps us to rest assured that our knowledge is on par with the industry standards. It also helps you, the client, to know that we are striving to better the dog training community as it moves toward more regulation.

Also in March she will be completing her Pet First Aid course through Walk n Wags. We are super excited about this course because we feel that Pet First Aid is something that every instructor should have in the event of an emergency in their class. In June, she will be becoming Certified as a Pet First Aid instructor. Check back this summer for upcoming Pet First aid courses! Put your name in now to get on our waiting list to be first notified of the upcoming classes.

This Fall Samantha will be pursuing her Canine Behavior Sciences Diploma. While this will mean a reduction in the number of classes available at Canine Coaching, we are sure you will all be supportive of her pursuit and she is looking forward to sharing her newfound knowledge with all her clients. Canine Behavior is a passion of hers and something she wishes to be able to help others with. This will help her to continue to work with behavior cases, such as anxiety and reactivity.

We are excited for this crazy busy year and what it will mean for us!
