A common problem we see in ALL stages of students is people who have a habit of repeating a command, over and over and over. Don't feel bad or alone - we see it with brand new puppies learning a new command in our Basic Obedience class all the way to Off Leash clients in a new distracting area. Depending on the situation we have a few different ways to help people stop having to repeat themselves and getting better, more efficient responses from their dogs.

We’ve been contacted a lot lately by people who have new puppies and a whole lot of questions. Personally, we LOVE this. There is nothing better than trying to start off on the right “paw” with your new pup. Here is the top 5 things we think everyone with a new puppy should know!
Sometimes going for a walk with your dog can be the most stressful thing a person does all day. Leash skills are actually one of the top three reasons people contact us. One stressful aspect of leash walks is meeting other dogs.
So what should you do when you come across another dog while out walking? I want to start by telling you a story. Close your eyes and picture the perfect day - nice fluffy white clouds in a big blue sky, a lake, a beautiful beach, your closest friends and your trusty sidekick - your dog. This was the scene before me. We arrived at the beach and spent a fun couple of hours laughing with friends and throwing the ball into the water for Tori, our 1 year old GSD. It was her first time to this lake and she loved it. Running, splashing in the waves and chasing after her ball. Approximately two hours later we started packing up to head home. Everything was about to take a drastic turn. Spring is here - and with it comes an abundance of emails, messages and phones calls all asking for help with the same thing. Walking! Without basic training and some ground rules leash walking can quickly become a miserable fight and source of frustration. Common problems I hear are: my dog pulls uncontrollably, my dog is too busy sniffing to walk, my dog reacts to everything, my dog doesn’t listen, etc. Some tips that anyone can apply to their walks are: positive reinforcement of key points, being in charge of the walk, proper corrections and obedience. Let’s talk about how to implement these ideas.
